The Filipino community in Al Ain and across Abu Dhabi is preparing for a full-day celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day on June 20, with organisers promising cultural performances, community activities and free health services. The event, hosted by FilCom Al Ain Organization, will run from 9am to 5pm at the Zayed Central Library in Al Ain. Admission is free. Organisers said the annual gathering aims to celebrate Filipino heritage while strengthening unity among overseas Filipinos living in the UAE. FilCom Al Ain Organization representative Charry Palencia told Expat Media that Filipino organisations, schools, companies and community groups from across Abu Dhabi are expected to participate in the event. “The event is expected to gather members of the Filipino community from across Abu Dhabi, including various Filipino organizations, companies, schools, and community groups,” Palencia said. Visitors can expect a packed lineup of activities throughout the day, including cultural performances, youth presentations, community parade, community bazaar, sponsors’ booths, free health screening and raffle draws. According to organisers, the celebration is designed not only as a festive gathering but also as a platform to promote Filipino culture, resilience and bayanihan spirit among overseas Filipinos. “The celebration aims to promote Filipino culture, unity, and community spirit among overseas Filipinos in the UAE. Admission to the event is free and open to everyone,” Palencia added. Community bazaars and sponsor booths will also offer Filipino products, food and services, while families attending the event can enjoy entertainment and wellness activities throughout the day. Philippine Independence Day is officially observed every June 12 to commemorate the country’s declaration of independence from Spanish colonial rule in 1898. Across the UAE, Filipino organisations traditionally hold community celebrations throughout June, drawing thousands of overseas Filipinos annually. CAM/Expat Media
