Motorist arrested for driving against traffic in Ajman
A 26-year-old motorist who has a record of nearly 40 traffic violations was arrested in the UAE for driving against traffic on a busy highway in Ajman, according to Ajman Police. Ajman Police caught the reckless driver within two hours after being alerted with footage from road surveillance cameras. His license was suspended and his car was impounded.The Gulf national was driving recklessly on Ajman’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, driving at high speed and risking a head-on collision as he drove in the direction of incoming cars. “He was headed to a residential area where he drove recklessly without regard to the lives of others,” said Lieutenant Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Ajman Police. He was stopped and arrested in the Al Talah area. Police seized his Lexus car, which will remain impounded for 60 days. His license was suspended for six months and he was fined Dh2,000. He was also fined a total of Dh1,100 for driving in the opposite direction of traffic and for ignoring traffic signs. Police said the motorist has a record of 39 traffic violations, and has racked up a total fine of Dh17,650. He also has 46 black points on his traffic file.
