UAE announces new Emiratisation deadlines for private companies

The UAE Cabinet has issued a decision amending rules on the country’s Emiratisation scheme in the private sector. Under the amended law, the annual Emiratisation target of 2 percent is split: 1 percent in the first six months and the other 1 percent in the second half of the year. The federal law aims to raise Emiratisation rates by 2 percent annually to reach 10 percent by the end of 2026. Private sector companies with 50 or more employees were required to hire Emiratis in 2 percent of skilled jobs by the end of 2022, and this 2023 they have to add another 2 percent Emirati staff before the yearend. Companies that failed to meet Emiratisation targets in 2022 were fined, with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation saying that it issued Dh400 million worth of fines last year. Following the Emiratisation campaign, more than 50,000 Emiratis are now working in the private sector, representing a 70 percent increase in employment for nationals in this sector in 2022.
