Following the introduction of the new law, UAE can now issue birth certificates for children born out of marriage. In the absence of the father, mothers in the country can now register their children. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued decree number 10-2022, governing the UAE's birth and death record. According to Hesham Elrafei, a legal expert specializing in UAE laws, the new birth registration regulation law is another example of the country's progress. "The laws in the UAE are issued to make people happy and to make life easier both for the economy and the individual. From civil marriage law to no-fault divorce, to golden visa, you don't find this elsewhere in the region," Elrafei said. The new law, which went into effect in October, acknowledges children's ability to obtain birth certificates regardless of their parent's marital status or whether their father is known or unknown.
