Preparations for the Moon City project in the UAE is in the “final stages”, Dunston Pereira, the CEO of the Royal Office of Sheikh Ahmed bin Faisal Al Qassimi, revealed on Tuesday (December 19). First announced in 2022, the Moon mega project is envisioned to be a 274-metre replica of the Red Planet, which would have a destination resort complete with a 4,000-room hotel, an arena that can seat 10,000 people and a “lunar colony” that would allow visitors to experience a moon walk. “In the top portion of the Moon, they are recreating the actual surface of the Moon. In a span of an hour, 1,000 people can be taken to that place on a space ship inside the structure and they will be wearing space outfits,” Pereira told Expatmedia.net in a previous interview. “I think this project will be a very successful one and it will be the next destination in the UAE after Burj Khalifa,” he says. On Tuesday, Pereira said the Moon structure will be part of Moon City, which will comprise of residential towers and villas, plus a marina. “The launch is expected early next year with a breathtaking structure of the moon surrounded by the residential towers close to 11,000 keys of 1-bedroom to 5-bedroom units,” Pereira said, adding that the Moon City project will also include “30 exclusive villas with a private yacht docking area and an integrated waterfront marina.” The location of the megaproject is still under wraps, but Pereira said Dubai’s Meydan area or the Dubai Pearl are possible locations.
