Teenagers in the UAE will soon be able to apply for a driving license at 17, following a landmark change in traffic regulations set to take effect on March 29. This amendment, announced by the UAE government, lowers the legal age for obtaining a car or motorcycle license from age 18 to 17, aligning both categories under the same rule. The decision is part of a new federal decree law on traffic regulations, introduced in October last year, aimed at enhancing road accessibility and mobility for young drivers while maintaining strict safety measures. Previously, 17-year-olds could only apply for a motorcycle license, while car licenses were restricted to those ages 18 and above. Now, both categories share the same minimum age requirement.
