The Ajman Police unveiled on Tuesday (July 4) new traffic fines of up to Dh3,000 for several violations, including overtaking on the road. It is part of the police force’s new awareness campaign to enhance road security. The new penalties include a fine of Dh3,000 plus the suspension of driving licence for one year for truck drivers overtaking on roads where overtaking is prohibited. Motorists who are caught overtaking from the yellow lane will be fined Dh1,000 and given six black points on their traffic file. Dangerous driving, including swerving, will also be penalized with a fine of Dh600 and six black points on the driver’s traffic file. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Interior announced new traffic penalties of up to Dh2,000 for road violations during bad weather. Under the new rules, motorists who drive near flooded areas, including dams and valleys, during rainy weather will be fined Dh1,000 and given six black points. Motorists who drive in flooded valleys, regardless of their level of danger, will be fined Dh2,000 and given 23 black points. Their vehicle will be impounded for 60 days. Those caught obstructing traffic authorities, ambulances or rescue vehicles during, rain, emergencies and disasters will also be fined Dh1,000, and given four black points.
