New UAE Vice President: Who is Sheikh Mansour?

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has appointed Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of the Presidential Court, as the UAE Vice-President. Sheikh Mansour will work alongside the incumbent Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. With the approval of the UAE Federal Supreme Council, the UAE president has issued a resolution for the federal appointees. In 2004, Sheikh Mansour was appointed as Minister of Presidential Affairs after handling the Presidential Court and the Ministry of Presidential Affairs. He was assigned to chair the Ministerial Development Council and the Emirates Investment Authority in 2007. He is also the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Deputy Chairman of the General Budget Committee and a member of the Abu Dhabi Supreme Petroleum Council. Born on November 20, 1970, Sheikh Mansour was raised in Abu Dhabi, where he studied until high school. He continued his education in the United States and received a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations in 1993. In 1997, Sheikh Mansour was appointed as Chairman of the Office of his late father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a post he held until Sheikh Zayed's death in November 2004. He was appointed as the Minister of Presidential Affairs in the same month, a ministerial portfolio created following the merging of The Office of HH the President and The Presidential Court to form the Ministry of Presidential Affairs. With the formation of the new Cabinet, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in May 2009, a position he holds to date. Sheikh Mansour was named Minister of the Presidential Court in July 2022, following the Federal Decree issued by the UAE President. Sheikh Mansour is the chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of the UAE, Emirates Investment Authority, Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Board of Trustees of the Khalifa Award for Education and Khalifa bin Zayed Charity Foundation. He is the Deputy Chairman of Mubadala Investment Company and a member of the Abu Dhabi Supreme Petroleum Council, Board of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Board of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, and Abu Dhabi Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs. Also an astute businessman, Sheikh Mansour chairs various financial entities in Abu Dhabi, including the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, First Gulf Bank and the International Petroleum Investment Company. Sheikh Mansour is also a big sports fan, and is an accomplished equestrian and athlete. He is known for his investments in professional football and has controlling share of Manchester City FC. He is also a primary investor in New York City FC, and has majority stakes in Melbourne City FC and Mumbai City FC. His posts in sporting bodies in the UAE, and is the Chairman of the Al Jazira Club, Emirates Racing Authority, Emirates Arabian Horse Society and the Board of the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
