UAE residents can now apply for new remote residency permit starting September 5

On Monday, September 5, UAE residents can start applying for a new residence permit to work remotely. Employees who want to live in the UAE but work for a company that does not operate in the Emirates will be able to apply for a residency permit starting next week. The one-year visa, which can be renewed for another year, allows foreign nationals to enter the UAE without the assistance of a local sponsor and work in line with the terms and conditions issued with the visa. The visa application must include documentation proving the worker is engaged in remote work for a company outside the UAE. The applicant must also have health insurance that covers medical costs in the UAE and a passport valid for at least six months. People who secure a remote work permit can also sponsor family members, but the duration of residency should be the same as the sponsor. People looking to apply from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah must submit their request on the Federal Authorities for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) website and obtain a 60-day entry permit. To do so, applicants must visit https://icp.gov.ae, register, and proceed to the smart services channel to log in. Applicants must select the remote work visa UAE option, upload their scanned paperwork, and pay the Dh300. The applications will be approved by ICA staff. Visitors to the UAE will have to pay more than the application fee of Dh300. As of yet, it is unclear whether employees and business owners will be subject to different requirements. In Dubai, remote workers must apply for a work permit through the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (www.visitdubai.com). If you are currently employed, you must provide proof of employment with a contract valid for one year from your current employer. You must earn at least $5,000 (Dh18,250) monthly and submit the salary slip for the last month and three-month bank statements. On the other hand, proof of company ownership and a monthly income of at least $5,000 is required from business owners. Bank statements of the company’s account for the preceding three months should be submitted as proof. In Dubai, the total application fee cost is Dh1,050 (approximately $287). Paying the fee does not guarantee you will receive the visa. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai is responsible for reviewing and processing all applications. Once you obtain the entry permit, you must have your medical test and apply for residency within 60 days, as is the case with standard work visas.
