The UAE has expanded its visa-on-arrival programme to include eligible nationals of six countries, including the Philippines, making travel to the emirates easier for thousands of residents living abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday (June 25) that nationals of the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Kenya and South Africa holding ordinary passports can now obtain a visa on arrival, provided they also hold a valid residence permit from certain approved countries. The new policy also applies to accompanying family members and is effective beginning June 25.

Who qualifies?

Under the new rules, travellers must hold a valid residence permit issued by one of the following countries or regions: • United States • United Kingdom • Canada • Australia • New Zealand • Japan • Korea • Singapore • Any European Union member state Eligible visitors may receive either a 14-day visa or a 60-day visa on arrival depending on the visa category granted. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) said the changes are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the UAE’s visa system and align services with international best practices.

Visa fees and extension rules

According to the ICP, the total fee for a 14-day visa on arrival is Dh100, while the 60-day visa costs Dh250. The 14-day visa may be extended once while the visitor remains in the UAE. However, the 60-day visa is valid for a single stay and cannot be extended. Visitors must leave the country upon expiry of their visa. An overstay fine of Dh50 per day will apply to those who remain beyond the authorised period. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the expansion reflects the UAE’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and encouraging greater cultural, economic and people-to-people connections with partner countries. Officials said the move will provide more opportunities for visitors to experience the UAE’s tourism attractions, business environment, cultural diversity and world-class infrastructure. The ministry added that it will continue working with relevant authorities to facilitate travel, streamline procedures and reinforce the UAE’s position as a leading destination for investment, entrepreneurship and global talent.
