UAE warns of Dh50,000 fine for using fireworks

The UAE’s Public Prosecution has reminded residents that using fireworks without a permit is illegal and anyone caught lighting firecrackers will face jail time and fined a minimum of Dh50,000. The Public Prosecution issued the advisory ahead of Eid Al Fitr celebrations. "Whoever sets off firework shows without a permit from the licensing authority in accordance with Article 39 and Article 59 of the Federal Decree-Law No. 17 of 2019, concerning weapons, ammunitions, explosives, military hardware, and hazardous substances, shall be sentenced to imprisonment and/or fined a monetary penalty," it said. In the UAE, only licensed companies can conduct fireworks. Using firework, which are considered explosives, is subject to the UAE’s law on Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives. Licenses to use fireworks are issued by the UAE Ministry of Interior. Anyone who uses fireworks or explosives without proper approvals can be subject to fines and jail sentence. ICA/Expat Media
