UAE worker loses arm in grinder, gets Dh150k

An Abu Dhabi worker whose right arm had to be amputated after being injured in a meat grinder accident was awarded Dh150,000 compensation. The Abu Dhabi Appeals Court ordered his employer to compensate him for the bodily and material damages he sustained. The worker informed the court that he was on duty when his right hand became stuck in the meat grinding machine and demanded Dh200,000 in compensation. He blamed the accident on the company's failure to implement adequate safety and protective measures. The firm was found guilty and was fined Dh10,000 by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance. The company was also ordered to pay the worker Dh100,000 in damages. The worker appealed the verdict, requesting an increase in his compensation. He emphasized that he could no longer execute some of his duties because of the injury. The appellate court's judge raised the compensation to Dh150,000 after hearing from all parties. BKM/ Expat Media
