Burj Khalifa displays Philippine flag on Philippine Independence Day

  DUBAI – The Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, lit up in the colours of the Philippine flag on Friday (June 12) to mark Philippine Independence Day. A crowd of Filipinos, some wearing shirts with Philippine-inspired designs, cheered as a LED display of the Philippine flag lit up the façade of the iconic tower at 9:15pm. This is the second year that the Burj Khalifa has flashed the Philippine flag on its facade to mark Philippine Independence Day, delighting the UAE's Filipino community.  
  The annual Philippine Independence Day celebration in the UAE this year was taken online amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Filipino Social Club hosted a day-long live stream of a special independence day programme that featured an appearance by Philippine stars Alden Richards and Julie Anne San Jose. Earlier on Friday, UAE President President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a message of congratulations to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte as the Philippines celebrated its 122nd Independence Day. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also sent two similar cables to Duterte.
