After a year of hearing people share horror stories of agencies that flew them to the UK, “something clicked” in Dubai-based entrepreneur Marion Joseph Tuangco. “I realized that this can be done the right way, the proper way, the honest way. I woke up one day and decided to open my own business so we can do it the proper way,” says Marion, managing director of Reliance Global Human Resource Consultancy. The Dubai-based talent sourcing and training company assists in sending people to the UK as caregivers, nurses or nursing assistants. “We match a candidate with our clients and then fly them to the UK under employment visa. We make sure they are trained and have the proper qualifications for the job,” Marion explains. It’s a job that is very close to his heart, explaining that he feels blessed to be able to open opportunities to people and their families. “I’m a product of an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker). That’s why I connect with overseas workers,” Marion shares. His mother worked in Japan for 20 years until she passed away. “So, whenever people tell me how they want to go and find opportunities in another country, I can relate to that,” he says. The greatest thing he has learned from his mother is to always put one’s best effort. “She told me: If you are going to sweep the floor, sweep it well. I apply that in everything,” he says. Marion’s company works with some of the trusted names in healthcare in the UK. Candidates come to him knowing that the agency will take care of them “from point A to Z”. He says much of his business success is due to reliability and transparency. “I need to be upfront, I need to be direct, I cannot give you shady answers. For example, when it comes to timelines, I need to give the right expectation,” he says. The Filipino entrepreneur says he learned his business ethics from Filipino media mogul Daniel Razon, CEO of TV network UNTV. “One of the things I live by is ‘Do the right thing and nothing wrong comes out of it’. I learned that from a very good mentor, Daniel Razon. I believe that to my core,” Marion says. It’s the same principle that Marion has practiced even before he flew to the UAE seven years ago to join his family. In his first few years in the emirates, he juggled a few jobs, including working for a human resources company that “pretty much laid out the foundation of what I really wanted to do”. Marion, managing director of Reliance Global Human Resource Consultancy He was also involved in a training company, which helped him spread his wings in the emirate. “During my weekends, I used to host several events. I was really busy because I didn’t want to be idle. I made new friends and new connections,” he recalls. Opening his talent sourcing and training company is really the icing on the cake, Marion says. He finds satisfaction in helping people realize their dreams. “Successful candidates continue to refer us to their family and friends. And in between, they send me videos of how their life has improved after their deployment,” he says. “There are a lot of opportunities if you have the courage.
