5-year multiple-entry permit, visa on arrival in Egypt

Egypt announced several steps to enhance visa access to increase tourism income with a 5-year multiple-entry permit and visa on arrival. Iranian tourists traveling in tour groups will soon be able to get visas on arrival in the southern portion of the Sinai Peninsula, according to the country's tourism ministry officials, opening up access to more of the country. Additionally, it happens at a time when certain Middle Eastern nations, including Egypt, are attempting to reduce regional tensions. Saudi Arabia, an ally of Egypt, and Iran declared that they would reestablish diplomatic ties this month. According to a statement from the Egyptian Tourism Ministry, Cairo has patched up its differences with Qatar and is rekindling relations with Turkey, another nation to gain from the new visa regulations by granting Turkish nationals broader access to visas on arrival. The Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa told Reuters that the $700 (Dh2,570) five-year multiple-entry visa was intended for investors and property owners headquartered outside of Egypt. Indian citizens living in Gulf countries would also be given visas on arrival, along with tourists from China, a market Egypt views as promising. According to a tourism ministry official, implementing all new visa regulations has been accepted in principle and will happen soon. KD/Expat Media
