The deceased, Wilma Auza, was found dead inside a bus on the way to her hometown in Negros Oriental, Philippines.

A Filipina died while traveling home to Negros Oriental after arriving in the Philippines from Japan, police confirmed. The deceased, identified as Wilma Auza, 41, was found unresponsive and slumped in her seat on a Ceres Bus traveling from Cebu South Bus Terminal to Dumaguete City on Monday (August 4). She was wearing a white T-shirt, jeans, and white Adidas sneakers when fellow passengers and the bus conductor noticed she had become unresponsive before reaching Sibulan town. Her sister-in-law, Miles Auza, confirmed her death, writing in a public post: “Condolence to the immediate family of my sister-in-law Wilma Auza who passed away this morning due to cardiac arrest while on board a Ceres Bus going home Dumaguete City.” Police found P17,000 in cash, a passport and a Kuwait Civil ID card from Wilma, which was valid until December 20, 2024. However, authorities said it is unclear whether she flew directly from Kuwait, as her only confirmed travel document was a flight ticket from Nagoya, Japan to Manila on August 3. Her family stated she used a connecting flight from Kuwait to Japan before flying into the Philippines and landing in Cebu via Manila. One of the passengers, Fretz Deposoy, shared that the conductor had already noticed Wilma vomiting during the trip, but no one suspected anything serious until later. “When we arrived in Bato, she was already slumped in her seat and everyone thought she had fallen asleep. Before we arrived in Sibulan, the conductor checked and found that she was unresponsive. I checked her pulse when we parked the bus near the church and her body was already cold,” Deposoy said in Filipino. Two officers from the Philippine National Police in Sibulan responded to the scene and assisted with the case. Dr. Dave Luke Montenegro declared the cause of death as Acute Ischemic Attack, a type of heart attack. Wilma’s remains are now at a funeral home in Poblacion, Sibulan. Her family said she had been on her way home to Barangay San Isidoro, Manjuyod, in Negros Oriental. Videos of the incident have gone viral online, with netizens expressing condolences and calling for more health screenings for long-distance travelers. CAM/Expat Media
