Coronavirus case in UAE: What government is doing

  ABU DHABI – The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) on Wednesday (January 29) announced the first case of the new coronavirus in the UAE. The ministry said that a four-member Chinese family who arrived from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus, tested positive for coronavirus. According to the ministry, the infected family members are in stable condition and under medical observation. Seeking to allay fears, the ministry also said "the general health condition is not a cause for concern". Meanwhile, here’s what UAE authorities are doing to curb the novel coronavirus outbreak:

Hospitals equipped to treat patients

Health authorities in the UAE have equipped doctors and hospital staff to treat any patient with coronavirus.

Investigation centres working 24/7

Epidemiological investigation centres in the UAE are working around the clock to report any cases of the virus.

Close monitoring by health authorities

According to MoHAP, the health system in the UAE "works very efficiently and that the ministry is closely following the situation in a way that guarantees the health and safety of everyone."

Passenger screening at airports

Passengers on flights from China will be screened on arrival at UAE airports. The Dubai Airports said thermal screening will be done on passengers from China at the arrival gate as part of directives from the UAE aviation authority.

Precautions taken

Authorities in the UAE have "all the necessary precautions in accordance with the scientific recommendations, conditions and standards approved by the World Health Organisation."

Advisory

Meanwhile, the MoHAP has issued an advisory to help people protect themselves against the new coronavirus. The health authority has advised against contact with people with respiratory symptoms, or live or dead animals from animal markets.
