4 iftars to try in Dubai and Ajman

  DUBAI - We tried four iftars in Dubai and Ajman. Here's the verdict.  

Al Hadheerah, Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa

We love the extraordinary iftar experience at Al Hadheerah, which actually starts with that 30-minute scenic drive to the desert resort in Al Qudra, where part of the road cuts through dunes. Arriving at Al Hadheerah restaurant, we were greeted by Arabian men on horses. We walked through the small souq and into the outdoor restaurant that has been  transformed into an air conditioned Ramadan tent with a 1,001 Arabian Nights theme. The food selection has been tightly curated this year but it is still a feast fit for a sheikh. First stop is the grilled chicken and lamb section, our favourite. We also loved the grilled seafood section that featured jumbo shrimps, fish and mussels. There are more cookings stations to explore, featuring authentic Arabian cuisine. Inside the tent, a live heritage show and live Oud music complete the experience. The Meydan Hotel

The Ramadan tent at the five-star The Meydan Hotel is just as classy this year as it was last year. Live Oud music while we had iftar made the experience much more delightful. We love the spread here, which features beautifully presented, balanced mix of Arabic and international cuisines. It's perfect if you're looking for authentic Middle Eastern food, or if your tastebuds are looking for something familiar, like Indian, Chinese, Italian or Japanese. Our favourites were the lamb ouzi, foga and the sushi spread. Iftar buffet at Loumi

At Millennium Airport Hotel in Dubai, the all-day dining restaurant Loumi has prepared an iftar buffet featuring affordable Arabic and international delicacies, including Indian cuisine that won't disappoint if you plan on inviting friends. Cafe Naseem, Ajman Hotel

To take advantage of the sea view at Cafe Naseem, head to the restaurant before sunset and then break your fast with the iftar on offer. There are Ramadan drinks, Arabic grills and a bit of international selection that includes Chinese fried rice, pasta, Indian chicken tikka and rather big slices of sushi.
