New Sharjah mosque opens ahead of Ramadan
DUBAI – A new mosque has opened in Sharjah ahead of Ramadan, according to the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah. The Al Shafaa Mosque is located in the Al Atain area along Al Dhaid Road. The mosque sits on 4,601 sqm of space and features five domes and a 21-metre minaret. The new mosque can accommodate 515 worshippers, including 65 women. Currently, mosques and other places of worship in the UAE are open at reduced capacity as a preventive measure against the spread of Covid-19. Worshippers are expected to wear face masks and bring their own prayer mats and Quran. Social distancing must also be observed inside and outside prayer areas. It is believed that precautionary measures will continue to be enforced throughout Ramadan, which is expected to start by mid-April.
