UAE reduces intellectual property crime
The UAE has made progress in safeguarding rights, innovations, and trademarks by enacting rules and legislation on the infringement of the intellectual property of others, according to a top police official at a recent conference. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai said that the UAE government is making great efforts to support its national strategy. UAE continues to strengthen its position as the top nation in the world for global competitiveness and the protection of intellectual property rights. With the creation of suitable rules and legislation, the UAE has emerged as a distinctive example for the region and the Arab world in the fight against intellectual property crimes. Several effective initiatives have started to raise moral and legal awareness of intellectual property among the citizens. According to Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, the country is taking proactive steps to prevent intellectual property crimes by developing its legislative and executive systems. The UAE ranked first on the Arab and regional levels on innovation and intellectual property. The country also maintained its top spot for the year in the Arab region. It rose two positions to reach position 31 internationally in this year's general classification of the index. The theme of a two-day conference by the Dubai Police and Interpol is "Capacity Building to Support Intellectual Property Leadership." Representatives from Dubai Customs, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Interior, and the Council of Trademark Owners are among the attendees.
