Can menstruation hurt Covid-19 vaccine efficacy? Not true, doctors say

  DUBAI – Doctors have dismissed viral posts on social media claiming that menstruating women should not get the Covid-19 vaccine to avoid low immunity. UAE authorities have approved the use of Covid-19 vaccines after these tested effective in creating immunity against the virus. Authorities also expanded its criteria for eligibility to include more people who can get immunized, including breastfeeding mothers. Pregnant women are not eligible for vaccination. Menstruation should not prevent women from getting a vaccine shot, Dr. Pooja Jaisal, Specialist Obstetrics and Gynecology at Canadian Specialist Hospital, told Khaleej Times. Dr. Maisaa Al Sulaiman, a specialist at Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah, said that women’s “periods have no effect on vaccine efficacy”.
