Coronavirus family in UAE to be discharged in 14 days
DUBAI – A Chinese family of four who tested positive for coronavirus are in stable condition and will be discharged from hospital in 14 days, a top UAE official said. “The condition of the family is good. They are stable. They are receiving all necessary medical care and will be discharged in 14 days’ time,” said Dr Hussein Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Centres and Clinics at the Ministry of Health and Prevention. The family—consisting of the father, mother, their nine-year-old daughter and grandmother—arrived in the UAE for a vacation on January 16. The family came from the Chinese city of Wuhan, considered the epicenter of the coronavirus that has left 170 people dead and infected 7,711 others as of January 29. A week into their trip in the UAE, the family visited a health clinic where tests confirmed they have contracted coronavirus. The family had initially taken the grandmother to the doctor due to flu-like symptoms, only to find out that she was actually suffering from coronavirus. Officials are tracing the people who came in contact with the family. According to Dubai Health Authority guidelines, hospitals must quarantine and monitor patients suspected of having coronavirus.
