What is the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan?

It is a plan to transform Dubai into the best city in the world to live in. Five main urban areas will be developed: education, tourism, commerce, nature, transport.

What will the Dubai population be in 2040?

Dubai’s population is expected to increase from 3.3 million to 5.8 million in the next 20 years.

More public beaches

Under Dubai 2040 plan, public beaches will be increased by 400 percent. This follows an earlier announcement by Sheikh Mohammed on creating a dozen new beaches in Dubai at a cost of Dh500 million. The beach development project covers 1 million square metres, from Mamzar Beach to Umm Suqeim II.

Transport and connectivity

By 2040, 55 percent of the Dubai population will be 800 metres closer to a main public transport station. The city will also have more cycling lanes and corridors for pedestrians.

Hotel, tourism, education and health

Areas for hotels and tourism will be expanded by 134 percent, while spaces designated for educational and health facilities will increase by 25 percent.

60 percent of Dubai to be natural reserves

By 2040, Dubai will be an urban oasis in the truest sense, with 60 percent of the emirate covered in nature reserves. Green and leisure areas will also be doubled to provide a healthy environment for residents and visitors.

Deira and Bur Dubai as Dubai’s heritage areas

The historic areas of Deira and Bur Dubai will be revitalized to support economic growth, increased job opportunities while highlighting the emirate’s tradition and heritage.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay as financial hub

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay will be developed as the business and financial heart of Dubai, with facilities and development to support economic growth.

Dubai Marina and JBR as leisure hub

The Dubai Marina and JBR will be developed further to serve as international tourism and leisure hub of Dubai.

Expo 2020 Centre for housing and exhibits

An Expo 2020 Centre will be developed to provide housing and space for exhibitions, tourism and logistics sectors.

Dubai Silicon Oasis Centre for science and technology

The Dubai Silicon Oasis Centre will be developed to become a science and technology and knowledge hub that will drive innovation and digital economy development and foster talent.

Housing for Emiratis

Emiratis will be given modern housing “with the highest standards”, while old Emirati housing districts will be revitalized. ICA/Expat Media
