Dubai Police launches Anti-Begging Campaign

Due to the number of beggar cases in Dubai, the Dubai Police launches its anti-begging campaign in areas where beggars are usually found. The General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police has rolled out its annual anti-begging drive resulting to the arrest of 458 beggars of different nationalities last year. Police patrols are intensified in areas such as markets and by mosques, in which beggars are found most often. “We urge members of the public to report beggars who exploit people’s generosity during the holy month to collect money,” said Brig Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, director of Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation Police also warned against falling for “sob stories” shared on social media, including WhatsApp, by people asking for money. The public is urged by authorities to report beggars by calling 901 or through the Police Eye service via Dubai Police smart app. Cyber beggars may also be reported at e-crime.ae. JMS/Expat Media
