257 motorbike accidents reported in 2021 in Dubai

  Twenty-two deaths and 253 injured bikers were recorded in road accidents in Dubai last year, police said on Sunday (March 6). There were also 257 motorbike accidents reported in 2021, compared to 244 in 2019 and 189 in 2018. Traffic movement was hampered for some time due to the pandemic, hence figures for 2020 were not available. Three people died and 47 people were injured in 46 motorbike accidents throughout the emirate in the first two months this year. The majority of the incidents, according to Brigadier Saif Al Mazrouei, chief of Dubai Police's traffic section, were caused by delivery riders, but he did not give an exact figure. “Home-delivery companies are urged to educate their riders about the importance of adhering to traffic laws and raise the level of traffic safety amongst them," Brig. Al Mazrouei said. The Dubai Police Department's traffic department has also held biker safety seminars. Speeding, using GPS locations on mobile phones, reckless driving, failing to maintain a safe gap between vehicles, irresponsible overtaking, and disobeying traffic signs were all the factors in the majority of motorcycle accidents. Motorists, the government, motorcycle operators, and owners should all work together to reduce the number of accidents, according to Thomas Edelmann, the founder of RoadSafetyUAE. He claims that many motorbike riders misbehave on the highways because they are not tracked and must satisfy customer delivery deadlines. He described motorcycle riders as "vulnerable" on the road and advised other drivers to be considerate of them.
