Emirates ID goes digital and replaces UAE visa stickers

Emirates ID effectively replaces visa stickers in passports as proof of residency starting April 11. New or renewal applications for residency can now be done in a single application without leaving the passports at immigration offices for visa stamping. Residency stickers are still available but only via the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) app. Residency details in printed format with the authority’s stamp can be done in three steps via the smart app or website (icp.gov.ae/en/). Soft copy of the Emirates ID can also be availed through submission of a request for issue or renewal. Visitors and residents from outside the UAE entering the country can now verify their entry status through a passport reader stationed in airports. Authorities have started rolling out the new generation card that contains all residency-related information, professional and personal data, the issuing entity, and other readable data via an e-link system. The move for the Emirates ID aims to reduce 30 to 40 percent of efforts and time in acquiring residency documents, according to ICP officials.
