Flying out of Dubai? Use passport to open Dubai Airport smart gates

  DUBAI – Travelers departing from Dubai can use smart gates at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 by scanning their passport, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) on Wednesday (September 2). Users do not need to be Dubai residents and they do not need to register to use the smart gates. Previously, the smart gates at Terminal 3 could be operated using a passport, Emirates ID, e-gate card or a QR bar code from the GDRFA app. Now, only passports are accepted. "The restart of the smart gates helps facilitates and simplifies the travel procedures, as the smart gates are considered the safest way to travel in light of the current conditions," said Mohammed Al Marri, director general of the GDRFA. The smart gates are not available for travelers arriving at Dubai International Airport. The smart gates are also not available in other Dubai airport terminals. ICA/Expat Media
