A new alcohol license is being introduced in Dubai to make applications simpler, according to distributor Maritime and Mercantile International (MMI). Starting on August 31, holders of “red card” alcohol licenses will be required to transfer to a smart new “black card” license system. Mike Glen, MMI managing director for UAE and Oman, said that the red cards will become obsolete by September. Owners of valid red cards switching to the new card will have any remaining months added to the new card.

How to register for alcohol license in Dubai

Under the new registration process, any non-Muslim resident above the legal age of 21 can apply or renew their alcohol licence by simply taking their Emirates ID to any MMI or African+Eastern outlet. Residents on Spouse’s Visa will also need a No Objection Certificate from their spouse. The cost of a license is Dh270, with replacements subject to a Dh25 fee that is redeemable for in-store purchases. The application will be approved within 48 hours, with the license card ready to collect within four weeks.
