A 27-year-old Indian expatriate died in Ras Al Khaimah after a wall under construction collapsed on him amid torrential rains and strong winds this week, according to his employer and community sources. The victim was identified as Salman Fariz, a native of Malappuram district in Kerala, India. He was working as a delivery rider for a 24-hour cafeteria in the Nakheel area of Ras Al Khaimah. The fatal incident happened at around 3am on Thursday (December 18) while Salman was out delivering an order during worsening weather conditions. According to his employer, KK Mohammed, heavy rain and strong winds began shortly after Salman left for the delivery. Mohammed said that Salman later called to say that his motorbike stalled midway through the delivery. “We told him to leave the motorcycle and take shelter somewhere,” he told media. Authorities believe Salman sought shelter either inside or near a building under construction, where a wall later collapsed, fatally injuring him. When Salman did not return, two co-workers went out searching for him but were unable to locate him. They only learnt about Salman's fate after police informed them. Abdul Nasar, a social worker assisting the family, said arrangements are being made to repatriate Salman’s remains to Kerala once all legal procedures are completed. The tragedy comes amid several days of unsettled weather across parts of the UAE, with authorities repeatedly urging residents to take precautions during storms and avoid unsafe structures.
