Jebel Jais, the UAE’s premier mountain destination in Ras Al Khaimah, will remain closed to the public until further notice following recent severe weather that affected the region. The temporary closure was implemented as a precautionary measure to allow specialist teams to conduct comprehensive safety inspections and essential maintenance work across the mountain. Authorities said on Tuesday (December 23) that the decision prioritises visitor safety after rainfall led to standing water, shifting rocks, and slippery paths in some areas. All operations at Jebel Jais are currently suspended, including the Jais Flight Zipline, 1484 by Puro, Red Rock BBQ, Via Ferrata, Bear Grylls Explorers Camp, and yoga activities at Jais Viewing Deck Park. Temporary road closures are also in place while targeted maintenance is carried out. Visitors have been advised not to camp in wadis during this period of unsettled weather and to exercise caution when hiking or climbing, as assessments of affected routes are ongoing. While some hiking and climbing areas are not officially closed, authorities urge extreme care until conditions stabilise. Donald Bremner, CEO of Marjan Lifestyle, said the cautious approach reflects the destination’s commitment to responsible tourism. “At Jebel Jais, responsible tourism means putting people, nature and safety first,” Bremner said. “Our mountains are one of the UAE’s most powerful natural assets, and protecting both our visitors and this environment is essential to ensuring they can be enjoyed for generations to come.” Reopening will take place in phases, with each area assessed and enhanced before welcoming visitors back. While winter is typically Jebel Jais’ busiest season, officials stressed that the decision was made with public wellbeing firmly in mind.
