Driver, three others sentenced to imprisonment for kidnapping, death threat case

After kidnapping and threatening an investor in Downtown Dubai, a driver, and three others were sentenced to imprisonment and a fine of up to Dh1.9 million. In a Dubai Court of Appeal ruling, the driver and two others will serve seven years in jail and jointly pay a fine of Dh1.9 million. They will be deported after serving their jail terms. The court also sentenced a fourth man to three years in jail for his participation in the kidnapping incident. According to records, the Asian investor had asked his driver to drive him from his workplace in Downtown Dubai to the gold market. On the way, the driver stopped the car, saying it malfunctioned. When he exited the vehicle, the gang ambushed the investor, beat him, and threatened him with a knife. The investor said that two of the gang told him they were policemen and that he was under arrest. When he refused to enter their vehicle, the men assaulted the victim and forced him into their car. The gang asked for Dh4 million ransom from the investor, but the latter only provided Dh1.7 million in cash. They demanded more, urging the victim to contact his company for an additional Dh200,000. After receiving the money, the gang tied the victim's hands and feet, blindfolded him, drove his vehicle to the side of a street, and left him there. Fortunately, the victim managed to untie himself and filed a report to the nearest police station. Police were able to track down and arrest the driver and two others. They also seized Dh1.6 million in a farm where one of the suspects works. During interrogation, the driver admitted to planning the crime and robbing the investor with the two men, while one suspect denied involvement in the crime, claiming he was just present at the farm because he is friends with the driver. The court, however, convicted the men and sentenced them. RZSP/Expat Media
