Gang jailed, kidnapping two employees of gold company
The court sentenced six people to five years imprisonment and a fine of Dh2.6 million for kidnapping two employees of a gold trading company and stealing cash worth Dh2.6 million. In May 2022, two Asian employees filed a complaint stating they had been kidnapped, assaulted, and robbed on their way back to the company after receiving money from the other company in the area. According to the victims, they were assigned to receive money from a firm in the same area, which they put inside a backpack and returned to the company. On their way back, a group of people impersonated the police, told them they were under arrest and forced them into the vehicle. They stole the backpack and mobile phones and left them handcuffed in the Al Qusais area. The victims managed to untie their hands and immediately reported the incident. The detectives collected evidence in the area and identified the suspects. All suspects were arrested. During the interrogation, the suspects admitted the crime. One of them denied involvement but admitted that the Dh50,000 found in his possession belonged to one of the suspects. The court, however, sentenced the man to one-month imprisonment and fined him Dh50,000 for keeping part of the stolen money.
