UAE most OFW vote-rich country in PH elections

The UAE ranked the highest number of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) voters for the upcoming Philippine elections this May with over 290,182 registered voters. During the previous elections, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States were the top 5 vote-rich countries for the past five years. The Overseas Election Vote opens in the UAE on April 10 and ends on May 9. The top 10 countries with the most voters make up 77 percent of the total population of registered OFW voters in the world. That's 1.3 million voters out of 1.69 million voters.
The Middle East and Africa ranked first on the number of Filipino voters by major area, followed by the Asia Pacific, North & Latin America, and Europe. Only the Asia Pacific region has shown an increase in the number of registered OFW voters since 2019, while the rest of the major areas saw a drop in registrations. The drop in OFW voter registrations is due to the economic disruptions all over the world, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos returning home. More than 791,000 OFWs came back home in 2020, according to the Department of Health. Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections has already anticipated this drop in registrations. JMS/Expat Media
