New UAE rules during Ramadan: Green pass needed to enter iftar tents

DUBAI –  UAE residents visiting iftar tents in the emirates must have a green pass in order to enter the tents, an official explained. Dr. Taher Al Ameri, official spokesperson of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, said the new rules are in line with the UAE’s strategy to protect the community’s health and safety. Al Ameri explained the updated protocol for iftar tents after the government announced new rules on the Ramadan tents this week. The official said that the green pass system will be enforced to enter iftar tents. Inside iftar tents, people must still maintain a safe distance of one metre, while security personnel or volunteers must be available to organise entry and exit activity. To avoid overcrowding, organisers can open iftar tents two hours before iftar to allow guests to come in. Face masks and sanitisers must also be provided to guests. Disposable cups, napkins and plates will be used in serving food, Al Ameri said, adding that this is subject to change, depending on current Covid-19 developments in the UAE. Permits are required to set up iftar tents in the UAE, with the local crisis management team as part of the approving authority, Al Ameri said. "The protocol stipulates that prior permissions to hold iftar tents must be obtained from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) while considering that the local emergency, crisis and disaster management teams in every emirate represent relevant authorities and can approve the establishment, numbers and location of such tents," Al Ameri said. Under the new rules, iftar tents must have an open design or air conditioning, and tents designs “must comply with relevant safety and prevention standards”. Al Ameri stressed that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect the country's achievements in curbing Covid-19, adding that the community plays a key role in the fight against the virus.
