Oasis Mall debunks coronavirus rumours
DUBAI – The Oasis Mall along Sheikh Zayed Road has denied rumours that the mall has been shut down over an alleged coronavirus case. Photos have been widely shared on social media showing an ambulance parked in front of the mall, with residents speculating that paramedics were there to aid a coronavirus patient. In a statement, the mall management said that paramedics were responding to a medical emergency in Al Quoz during the March 9 incident and had “arrived at the mall by mistake”. The management said that the paramedics left after getting the right location of the emergency, but added that the photos circulated on social media had created “unwarranted confusion and speculation”. "We reiterate that no case has been reported at Oasis Mall,” the management said in a statement. Under UAE anti-cybercrime laws, spreading false information online can attract harsh penalties, including jail terms and up to Dh3 million in fines. The Oasis Mall management did not say whether or not they would take action against those who shared the misleading photo online.
