Residents line up for free Covid-19 vaccine in Downtown Dubai

DUBAI – Scores of people lined up on Monday (February 15) to receive their free second Covid-19 vaccine at a hotel in Downtown Dubai. A security personnel told Expatmedia.net that the vaccination centre at The Address Sky View has been open since Friday to Dubai residents booked for their second vaccine dose. The centre will remain open until Tuesday, vaccine staff told Expatmedia.net. Currently, Covid-19 vaccination will only be given to those who have already gotten their first dose. There is yet no word on when qualified residents can get their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, staff said. At 2pm on Monday, long queues could be seen in the men’s section outside the hotel premises, with lines of people waiting for their turn to get vaccinated. Rohit (full name withheld), told Expatmedia.net that he was told to visit the centre in Downtown Dubai to receive his second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. “I tried to get my second dose at another vaccine centre on Saturday, but I was turned down. There were a handful of us turned away. They told me I can come here and get my second dose,” Rohit said. Unlike the men’s queue, there was no queue in the women’s section. Registration was quick and straightforward, with helpful female staff directing people to the fastest registration desk. Residents only need to present their Emirates ID. As UAE authorities announced earlier in February, staff at the centre reiterated that Covid-19 vaccination in the country will prioritise more vulnerable groups, including the elderly and people with chronic diseases, over the next six weeks.
