UAE eases face mask rule in some public areas
DUBAI – The UAE government has eased the rule on wearing masks in public, with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announcing on Wednesday (September 22) that masks are no longer mandatory in certain situations. According to the ministry, wearing of masks is not mandatory when: - In a car with members of the same household - In private with members of the same household - Exercising outside - At the beach - In or by the swimming pool - In a barber shop or beauty salon - In medical centres and clinics Face masks are also not obligatory for people who are alone in closed spaces. Local authorities should put signs showing the places where it will be allowed "not to wear a face mask" and the public should adhere to social distancing of two metres. "This decision comes after the noticeable decrease in the number of registered Covid-19 cases in the country... and the availability of multiple vaccines," according to MoHAP and National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) in a statement. MoHAP and NCEMA highlighted the need to adhere to wearing a face mask in the places where it is obligatory to do so, adding, "studies confirmed that the face mask was one of the most important means to stop the spread of the virus." They also made it clear that those who do not adhere to wearing a face mask in the places where it is mandatory to wear it, will be fined.
