UAE expands Covid-19 vaccination program
DUBAI – Authorities expanded the UAE’s Covid-19 vaccination programme on Sunday (March 21) to include more residents. The vaccination programme previously prioritized high-risk groups, including the elderly and people with chronic diseases, for the past six weeks. Under the expanded programme, eligible citizens and residents aged 16 and above can now be vaccinated free of charge at any of the 205 vaccination centers in the UAE, according to the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention. The Ministry also urged all Emiratis and eligible residents to book appointments for their Covid-19 vaccination. High-risk individuals can continue to receive priority at walk-in clinics even without an appointment. As of Saturday, 56 percent of the eligible population have received the Covid-19 vaccine, said Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention. Four Covid-19 vaccines are approved for emergency use in the UAE, namely Sinopharm, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V and Oxford-AstraZeneca.
