UAE to lift travel ban on unvaccinated citizens on April 19

DUBAI – Starting on April 19, unvaccinated UAE citizens will be allowed to travel after the UAE announced it is lifting the travel ban on unvaccinated Emiratis. Unvaccinated UAE citizens can travel, but must present a negative PCR test done within 48 hours of their flight. They must also complete travel forms on the Al Hosn app to get a green status. Dr. Taher Al Ameri, Official Spokesman of the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority, said the new protocol is in line with the UAE’s policy to achieve a sustainable recovery from the pandemic. "We urge the public to follow the required precautionary measures for all passengers before and after travel, and the current situation regarding the pandemic at their travel destinations,” Al Ameri said. He said that in case any Emirati traveler is suspected of contracting coronavirus, they must contact the country’s diplomatic missions abroad and use the Tawajudi service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Under the updated travel protocols, children below the age of 16 do not need to take a PCR test to travel, even if they are not vaccinated. Previously, this exemption only applied to children under the age of 12. The UAE relaxed its Covid-19 restrictions after the country continued to record daily cases that are below 250, which is considered a big decline from the nearly 4,000 per day cases reported in mid-January. There has been no recorded Covid-related death in the UAE since March 8, and the country has among the lowest death rates in the world at 2,302. ICA/Expat Media
