UAE plans to vaccinate 50% of population by April

DUBAI – The UAE aims to vaccinate 50 percent of the population in the first quarter of 2021, said a spokesperson for the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA). Dr. Saif Al Dhaheri made the statement amid an increased demand for Covid-19 vaccine in the country. Currently, Covid-19 vaccines are being given free of cost and on voluntary basis. The official said that 3.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered as of Tuesday (February 2), while the total number of Covid-19 tests has surpassed 26 million. On Tuesday, the first shipment of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for Covid-19 arrived in Dubai as the emirate approved the use of the vaccine. This brings to three the number of Covid-19 vaccines available in the UAE. Al Dhaheri said taking the Covid-19 vaccine is everyone’s “ethical duty” to overcome the pandemic. "The most effective way to achieve this is to take the vaccine, to ensure the safe return to normalcy," he said. ICA/Expat Media
