8,144 infected with Covid-19 in UAE, with 390 new cases on August 23

  DUBAI – The UAE’s total number of active Covid-19 cases continued to climb, with 390 new case reported on Sunday (August 23), bringing the total number of infected to 8,144. That’s an increase of more than 1,000 new cases since August 19 when the total number of active coronavirus cases in the country climbed up to 6,952. The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention said 80 more people recovered from the virus on Sunday. Three deaths were also reported. The ministry said the recent surge in daily Covid-19 infections is the result of some people’s disregard for preventive measures such as social distancing and wearing of masks. The ministry urged the public to cooperate with the country’s precautionary measures. An official also warned that new fines and rules may be implemented to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
