Emirates is hiring, but netizens are ‘disgusted’

  DUBAI – Emirates airline is hiring for two available jobs, but the news has been met with mostly criticism from netizens. Khaleej Times recently posted news about the job openings in Emirates, with many social media users commenting that the move from Emirates came at a bad time. “I’d be disgusted if they are hiring after just being made redundant just three months ago! How very sad,” Alison Marie Mitchell commented on Facebook. The sentiment was echoed by Zafar Iqbal, who said the Dubai-based airline should “take back the terminated commandos already sacrificed their blood for them”. “What a sad joke. Worse PR in the world to announce that you’re hiring while you’re still kicking people out,” Christian Brezeanu wrote in the comments.

Others, however, defended Emirates on its job cuts. “It was necessary for the airline through survive through this. They’re not a charity,” said Andrew Riad. Since May, Emirates has laid off thousands of employees amid the coronavirus pandemic. There have been several rounds of job cuts since the first one in May. The airline has so far not released figures of how many people were laid off, but Bloomberg reported that the airline planned to cut up to 30,000 jobs or 30 percent of its workforce. Meanwhile, on its careers website emiratesgroupcareers.com, Emirates announced it is hiring for the post of Marketing Enablement Manager and Digital Product Owner. It appears the airline is looking to expand its digital marketing presence by hiring experts in this field. According to the job postings, applications for the jobs will continue to be accepted until December 27.
