Filipino in Abu Dhabi wins Dh1 million in Mahzooz

DUBAI – A Filipino expatriate in Abu Dhabi has won Dh1 million in the Mahzooz draw last Saturday, organisers revealed on Thursday (June 3). Roland, a delivery driver for a cake shop, matched five out of six winning numbers to share the Dh2 million secondary prize with another winner. "I've been participating in the draw from day one and I never lost hope," said Roland, 38. "I always knew my lucky day would come and when it came on Saturday, I couldn't believe it,” he said. “When I saw that my numbers matched, I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. I even had to check my blood pressure the next morning!” he added. The Filipino said he never imagined he would become a millionaire, but “now I know for sure that everything in life is possible." He plans to use his winnings to give his partner the wedding of her dreams. "We have been talking about getting married for a long time and now we can finally afford it," Roland said. After more than ten years of living in the UAE, Roland is excited at the chance to help his family back in the Philippines. "I can finally buy land for my mother so she can build her dream home," Roland said. "I also want to help out my brother. Ever since I was little, he's supported me through everything – going to college, moving to the UAE. None of this would have been possible without him." Along with Roland, an Emirati also matched five out of six numbers and claimed Dh1 million. ICA/Expat Media
