Sri Lankan wins Dh15M, Filipina bags Dh1M in Big Ticket

  DUBAI – A Sri Lankan man living in Ras Al Khaimah is now Dh15 million richer after winning the jackpot in the recent Big Ticket draw. On Thursday (June 3), Rasika JDS’s ticket number 213288 was picked for the grand prize. Rasika said he will be sharing the prize with five other friends who pooled their money to buy the ticket. Rasika, a civil engineer who works in Dubai, said he was talking a walk with his friend when he received the call informing him of his big win. The 48-year-old has been living in Ras Al Khaimah since 2005, and has been yearning for his family ever since they moved back to Sri Lanka in 2015 over financial issues. Alone in the emirates, he has continued working in Dubai to pay off a Dh500,000 bank loan. “I was struggling to cover my bank loan so now I will pay it off and bring my wife and four boys back to start a new life,” Rasika said. He does not have many plans yet on what else he will invest in but shared that he will help some of his family members to start their own businesses.

Filipinos win in Big Ticket

Meanwhile, the secondary prize of Dh1 million went to Kristine Bernadette Bernardo of the Philippines. Bernardo’s winning ticket number is 317768. Another Filipino, Mark Adres, won the fourth prize of Dh90,000 with ticket number 043930.
