Tremors from strong Iran earthquake felt in UAE

An earthquake that shook Iran on Thursday (March 17) was felt in parts of the UAE, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed. The 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit southern Iran at 3:15am. UAE residents said they felt tremors for about five seconds. A resident posted on Twitter that she and her baby woke up from the tremors. It was the first instance of tremors that the country felt this year. “These aftershocks are always of very low magnitude, but they can sometimes be felt if of sufficient strength,” said Khamis Al Shamsi, an official from the NCM.
