Man rescued after being stuck for 60 hours under Turkey earthquake rubble

A man in central Turkey was miraculously alive and rescued after 60 hours of being stuck under the Turkey earthquake rubble. Mehmet, 22, was discovered alive under the rubble in sub freezing conditions without food or water. When Mehmet was rescued, he was immediately transferred to a stretcher. The man mustered the energy to wave his hands towards his family when he saw them. He was stuck under a collapsed building in Kahramanmaraş, a city in central Turkey. Kahramanmaras was close to the 7.8-magnitude earthquake and the most violent the world has experienced since 2011. Rescuers have searched around the 10-storey building that has entirely collapsed where Mehmet’s family lived. The infrastructure is part of the estimated 6,000 structures that the earthquake destroyed. Mehmet’s family is also hoping to recover his 58-year-old father, Nefrez, who is believed trapped under the rubble. Other families have also reportedly kept vigil in front of the collapsed building, hoping their loved ones might still be found alive. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing. However, the UN has cautioned that the odds of discovering any survivors are decreasing, with more than three days passing after the earthquake. KD/Expat Media
