A new scam is doing the rounds on Facebook with a fake advertisement claiming to sell unclaimed or lost luggage at the Dubai International Airport for only Dh8. The bogus ad is among the latest in a string of scams on social media aimed at UAE residents. Last week, Expat Media reported a bogus ad on social media, particularly on Facebook, with a video ad claiming that RTA is offering a Nol gift card for only Dh8. The RTA has denied making such an offer, urging residents to only deal with its official website and social media channels. On Friday (January 26), Expat Media spotted a similar scam with an ad that leads to a fake Dubai Airport website. The bogus ad claims that Dubai Airports is running a promotion to sell lost luggage for only Dh8. It links to a page mimicking the Dubai Airports website. “We are urgently cleaning out the airport warehouse and selling luggage that has been unattended for more than six months. We are organizing a charity event and giving it away for just Dh8,” the ad claimed. However, closer inspection revealed that the website address is Sale4buy1.com. The official website address of Dubai Airport is dubaiairports.ae. Authorities have repeatedly warned UAE residents and tourists to be wary of social media ads and also in responding to promotions on social media. ICA/Expat Media
