Passengers travelling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) can look forward to faster security checks with the rollout of advanced 3D baggage scanners set to be completed by May 2026. The new technology, currently being installed at Terminal 3, will allow travellers to keep laptops and liquids inside their bags during screening — eliminating one of the most time-consuming steps at airport security. “This will significantly speed up screening, reduce waiting times and enhance security,” said Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, in an interview with Emarat Al Youm. The 3D scanners use cutting-edge imaging technology to generate highly detailed scans of baggage contents, enabling security officers to inspect bags more efficiently without compromising safety standards. The initiative is part of Dubai Airports’ broader strategy to integrate smart technologies that improve passenger flow at the world’s busiest international hub. Other innovations include AI systems that predict passenger movements up to 24 hours in advance — helping staff adjust operations dynamically during peak hours. Dubai International is also introducing biometric “red carpet” corridors across all terminals. Currently at Terminal 3, the high-tech services allows arriving passengers to clear immigration within seconds — no documents required. These lanes are capable of processing up to ten travellers simultaneously. With passenger traffic projected to hit 96 million in 2025, the upgrades are expected to transform the travel experience for millions of passengers each year, reinforcing DXB’s position as a leader in airport innovation and efficiency.
