Since the launch of the UAE’s visa amnesty program on September 1, 2024, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) revealed that 88 percent of individuals who rectified their status have chosen to remain in the country. The remaining 12 percent opted to leave the UAE without receiving a ban on their passports. Individuals can apply for the program through ICP’s electronic channels or at authorized typing centers, with in-person visits required only for fingerprinting. The amnesty primarily targets those who have overstayed their visas, those with expired residency permits, individuals listed in administrative work discontinuation reports, and children born abroad whose residency status was not registered within four months. Categories not covered under the amnesty include those who violated residency regulations after September 1, individuals listed as absconding after the same date, and those previously deported from the UAE or other GCC countries. The amnesty program, which runs until October 30, offers multiple benefits, including the ability to leave the country without a re-entry ban, exemptions from administrative fines, and resolution of visa-related penalties.
