The Philippine Embassy in the UAE successfully assisted an overstaying Filipino parent secure a legal identity for her one-year-old child on the first day of the amnesty program. The UAE's two-month visa amnesty program not only addresses issues with residency visas but also allows foreigners born in the UAE, whose parents did not register their residency within four months of birth, to apply for amnesty and obtain legal identity documents. For overstaying Filipino parents who missed the four-month registration period, the Philippine Embassy provided essential steps to secure their child's identity through the amnesty: First, the parent must report the birth to the health authority in their emirate of residence and apply for late registration to obtain a birth certificate. This will then be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). Following this, the parent should complete an online form and email it to the Philippine Embassy. The embassy will then process the child's passport application. During the amnesty period, various embassies, including those of the Philippines, India, and Pakistan, are offering assistance to their citizens applying for amnesty.
